What 2020 Digital Marketing Trends are Relevant to B2B?
As a marketer, I’m always looking to see what the latest trends are. Most of the articles I read are for the Business to Consumer (B2C) market so what if you are a company that sells Business to Business (B2B)? What trends should you be looking to adopt? In my opinion, these are the top 5 that could be used for B2B digital marketing -
- Streaming video – Videos were extremely popular across social media platforms in 2019 and will continue to be in 2020. This is definitely a trend that B2B marketers should be using.
- Social Media stories – this is a simple way to engage users and drive traffic to your website. According to Chief Marketer – the benefits to social media stories are:
- Increased brand awareness
- Constant engagement with followers
- Cost-effective ad solution
- Increased traffic to your web page
- Opportunity to reach younger audiences
- Improved Customer Security – Is your website secure when handling customer information? With so many data breaches, this will be important for all businesses to follow guidelines to keep consumer data safe.
- Interactive Content Marketing – this is a great way for B2B companies to interact with their customers through quizzes, polls & surveys and calculators to name a few.
- Augmented Reality (A/R) – We’ll see a lot of this on the B2C side with virtual tours of homes, paint colors, and even makeup companies. Depending on the B2B product, I think that there ways that incorporate A/R into your digital marketing
Maybe I’m wrong, but here are the trends that I don’t see working for B2B –
- Influencers – Sure, influencers are great for consumer goods, but it seems difficult to work into a B2B mix. Don’t get me wrong – there are certain B2B products where influencers could work, but I don’t see this trend as popular in the B2B realm
- Social Media Shopping – Because B2B is well, B2B, I don’t see social media shopping being adopted in 2020. Most items are too specific to even be sold online.
- Voice Search – Most likely, a consumer is not going to ask Alexa for widget xyz. This is something to keep an eye on, but I don’t think that we’re there yet for B2B.
